MIDNIGHT/DAY 2 - suspicion
[ In the spirit of Ace Attorney, the game where murders happen but NO ONE ACTUALLY SEES THE ACTUAL THING EXCEPT FOR THE PERPETRATORS…
The night has ended. You might have ousted someone, but NOTHING HAPPENS. You go back to your rooms and you find some samurai dogs by your bedside. At least there's food. Better than nothing. But you feel tired. It's been a long and stressful day. Could you even sleep at that rate?
In the middle of the night, you might hear a loud thud. If you wake up (or if you were already awake) and check the hallway, you'll find a bust—or its remnants—by the mirror closer to the Hawthorne and Gavin rooms. The statue is coloured… pink? Magenta? Well, whatever.
Behind the bust is a body… a dead body. Yup, that's right.
If you approach it, you'll find the dead body of Myriam Scuttlebutt. There's no box, just the young girl. If you saw her without the guise of her box, you'll realise that she isn't wearing her school uniform. She has a green jumpsuit on. Her arms were raised and had some red markings on her wrist, as if her hands had been tied. An awl was lodged in her abdomen. Dried blood by her wound, as if the blood had seeped through from her wound.
Myriam Scuttlebutt has been taken out by the allies of the Bad Badger. You have all been warned. You should have expected this.
If you decide to do a headcount, you'll find that one team is missing. One team with two members in it. The room to the Engarde room is swinging open. Do you check it out?
Upon entering, you'll find Matt Engarde's corpse placed conveniently on a chair. You'd think it's Matt, anyway. He seems to be wearing the Nickel Samurai costume. He's seated with his head facing the ground. There's a scarf on his neck, placed rather too tightly. Did he did from strangulation…? By the chair is an open guitar case, and a vanity with a wine glass on top of it.
By the only mirror in the room is Simon Keye's body, hanging frrom the ceiling. Nearby is a coffee table, and an envelope with the police department's seal on it. Whoever opens it will read a letter that reads "proto badgr kill."
If you go back to the library, you'll find Myriam's mirror still standing, but it doesn't function as a mirror anymore. You'll find a portrait of Aristotle Means instead, like a huge picture frame. A huge X painted in red covers about half of the portrait. The same goes for Matt and Simon Keye's mirrors - except Simon's mirror also has Matt's face on it. L O L.
The other mirrors have names again… although if you count, there seems to be only ten teams now: ]
[ If you've still got an appetite, there are calzones (WHICH IS BASICALLY THE GRANDFATHER OF PIZZAS - THANK YOU PARKS AND RECREATION) and sushi (NOT BURGERS) that is edible in the dining hall. If you are thirsty, here is a water dispenser, as well as a bowl of punch. Not alcoholic. ]
----
[ 00:01 MARCH 3 EST: Day 2 begins, and a new suspicion poll pops up. ONLY TEN TEAMS REMAIN.
00 MARCH 4 EST: A clue will be given. Suspicion poll closes at MIDNIGHT.
00 MARCH 5 EST: Ousting poll gets put up! ]

CLUE!!! (Handcuffs can be broken, feel free to play around with it.)

He'll figure it out eventually, and if not it's incredibly likely that the conversation will just loop back around to it eventually anyway so he'll take another shot at it then and hope it's slightly less stupid.]
...bear in mind that I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but it appears that the person most strongly incentivized by those hostages is Wright. And while I can't say for sure about what happened with Miss Myriam, Wright also has extensive knowledge of at least one of the..."crime scenes" we've seen so far and would know how to reproduce them.
Don't misunderstand me - that's a level of repulsiveness that I don't believe your father to be capable of. But that sort of logic can backfire rather splendidly on you if you aren't careful, if for no better reason than it will start doing your head in.
[...look he's paranoid as hell he knows these things trust him it'll do nasty things to your head]

[ KIND OF. At least she can see that Kristoph Gavin's head is not a nice place to live in but the are all sort of getting a sneak peek and by the end of this half of them may be halfway as paranoid as him and that will be quite a lot of paranoid. ]
However, there is another way they could get the crime scene information than just one of us knowing it, right? That interpol pizza guy seemed to be suggesting the police department had to do with this - and, um, the badgers are...related to the department. Even though I'm not saying the department seriously does have to do with this - because no? - if they could kidnap all of us here and bring two dead people back to life I think they could probably get crime scene files. I mean, I think that's...probably the easiest assumption to make here.
...At least the how-they-were-killed theme is really easy to see even if nothing else is.

the level of paranoia going on here is pretty much how he normally is on your average wednesday
...it's pretty great isn't it fuck his life]
Given the lack of detectives and genuine representatives of the force, I would actually be entirely willing to believe that this is the police department's doing.
However, the sheer amount of actual magic involved makes me doubt that theory.

At least she was right last time they voted: Kristoph is helpful, possibly because he's...used to being paranoid as hell and also because his self-preservation instincts have to include the rest of the group for the time being.
As long as his survival depends on their good will and mostly-survival, he's probably going to be helpful. ]
...Yeah, there is that part. Which...is another possible incentive, y'know. Interpol pizza guy didn't seem to see us as we are. We...could be dealing with people who are playing along because their minds have been messed with, magically.
[ But she doesn't like that possibility solely because how do they find people in that scenario. ]
no subject
[Not that "everyone is brainwashed and crazy" is precisely a rational explanation in any sort of normal situation, but this isn't a normal situation. So we can just leave that part alone, if no one minds.]

[ But it's also the only actual reason Trucy can think of for anyone in the three teams named today to be "bad badgers", to be frank. Aura had held people hostage, sure, but she'd never killed anyone. Nor had Ray or Simon or Mia or Maya to Trucy's knowledge. ...Or Mr. Armando because she still wasn't clear on his case and hadn't been enlightened by her father's comments on him. He seemed nice, too. ]
Still, the task...can't be impossible. Or thinking it is won't do us any good at all. So what else we can observe besides connections between the teams is...votes. We already talked about the Dahlia votes - should we talk about the votes we could see, yesterday? The three teams up today were the last three teams to vote. Uncle Larry excluded, since he didn't manage to re-vote in time.

I can think of a few reasons, but I want to hear her explanation first.

When she and Polly had found evidence against their clients, they'd simply kept digging until they'd found the contradictions and could clear things up. The only way to find contradictions was to hear the testimony, in full. Ignoring pieces that you didn't like...didn't work, if you wanted to clear someone. So, after a pause as she reordered her thoughts: ]
I'd...like to hear it, too. Why the "Redd White" team voted for the "Kristoph Gavin" team.
no subject
Of course. There's no sense in jumping to conclusions about it either way, after all.
[He was a defense attorney for years; he knows how these things tend to go. As it stands, not all of the reasons he's come up with for that particular vote are negative; it's just a matter of seeing what she says at this point, really.
...And if we can't find the damn contradictions, if any exist, all he really has to say is "god damn it, guys, how many of us in this room went to law school because..."]

[ It looks like everyone else is preoccupied, maybe they need to new toplevel or something she's not sure. ]

[He's also got a badger to go yell at eventually, tbh, because there is a part of this that isn't settling well with him, but he does want to see where this goes.]
