[Blackquill is thrown off balance by the explosions, coupled with the rope suddenly being severed from around his neck.]

F-Fool Bright--?!

[He gasps for breath, clutching at his neck. What just happened?]

[ACTION MOVIE BULLSHIT JUST HAPPENED.]

You can't just give up and die! There's still something you need to do!

[He secures an arm around Simon's chest and shoots the grappling hook again, latching it into the ceiling, then swings them both back to the doorway. As he lands, he gets his other arm under Simon's legs and lifts him up to hurriedly carry him through another room filled with smoke from the earlier explosions.]

[SO MUCH ACTION MOVIE BULLSHIT IS HAPPENING. Once they've landed, he tries to force his way out of Bobby's grip, shouting hoarsely--]

Unhand me at once! What the devil is going on? Since when have you been capable of this?!

[He's cut off from any more questions as they enter the room full of smoke, which sends him off coughing. Being almost strangled to death and now smoke is not a fun combination.]

Hold your breath and stay quiet. There's still one badger out there.

[He'll make up some bad excuses LATER okay. He's in a hurry! And he's not dropping Simon, have you seen how beefy his pecs and arms are?]

[...Maybe shutting up is actually a good suggestion. He stops struggling and covers his mouth with a forearm, focusing on not choking.]

[ from the ceiling comes a shot, all of a sudden. when the smoke is gone, bobby might find simon blackquill's chest to have been pierced with a crystal sword. it's also 6am so please excuse my grammar.

and out of the smoke comes the second badger. or is he the first? ]

What are you doing?

[ sorry simon, u ded now. gotta take care of bobby next. ]

[WELL SHIT. He doesn't answer the badger. Instead, without hesitation, he drops Simon and pulls out his lighter, switches it into the shape of a gun, and fires his one shot at the badger.]

[Then he's grabbing Simon's arm and dragging him behind a sofa, leaving a dark trail of blood. He's not sure if Simon's even still hanging on or if he's already gone. He can't check, as he's too busy watching for retaliation from the badger.]

Wake up, Blackquill. You have something on the phantom you've been chasing, don't you? I'll take care of it. You have to tell me where it is.

[shacklebreaker]

[Blackquill doesn't notice the gun at all, or what it might imply. He knows he's fatally wounded; the rest is a haze of irrelevance. Still, when Bobby mentions the phantom, he grabs onto the front of his shirt with the last of his strength.]

I told you... never to speak of that case... [He lets out a quiet, pained laugh.] Now it goes to the grave with me.

[His grip goes slack, and moments later, he dies. A stubborn asshole to the end.]

[ YOU COME INTO MY MANSION— no, jk

proto badger doesn't like being ignored, though. so as simon's body crystalises, it deals with bobby by crystalising him too. think frozen!

and the next thing he'll know is that he's in a very dark room. ]

[Ooooooooh no. Just as he's trying to shake Simon awake, crystal starts creeping onto him. He tries to swipe it off, inadvertently slicing open his hand on it before it solidifies him entirely.]
