MIDNIGHT/DAY 2 - suspicion

[ In the spirit of Ace Attorney, the game where murders happen but NO ONE ACTUALLY SEES THE ACTUAL THING EXCEPT FOR THE PERPETRATORS…

The night has ended. You might have ousted someone, but NOTHING HAPPENS. You go back to your rooms and you find some samurai dogs by your bedside. At least there's food. Better than nothing. But you feel tired. It's been a long and stressful day. Could you even sleep at that rate?

In the middle of the night, you might hear a loud thud. If you wake up (or if you were already awake) and check the hallway, you'll find a bust—or its remnants—by the mirror closer to the Hawthorne and Gavin rooms. The statue is coloured… pink? Magenta? Well, whatever.

Behind the bust is a body… a dead body. Yup, that's right.

If you approach it, you'll find the dead body of Myriam Scuttlebutt. There's no box, just the young girl. If you saw her without the guise of her box, you'll realise that she isn't wearing her school uniform. She has a green jumpsuit on. Her arms were raised and had some red markings on her wrist, as if her hands had been tied. An awl was lodged in her abdomen. Dried blood by her wound, as if the blood had seeped through from her wound.

Myriam Scuttlebutt has been taken out by the allies of the Bad Badger. You have all been warned. You should have expected this.

If you decide to do a headcount, you'll find that one team is missing. One team with two members in it. The room to the Engarde room is swinging open. Do you check it out?

Upon entering, you'll find Matt Engarde's corpse placed conveniently on a chair. You'd think it's Matt, anyway. He seems to be wearing the Nickel Samurai costume. He's seated with his head facing the ground. There's a scarf on his neck, placed rather too tightly. Did he did from strangulation…? By the chair is an open guitar case, and a vanity with a wine glass on top of it.

By the only mirror in the room is Simon Keye's body, hanging frrom the ceiling. Nearby is a coffee table, and an envelope with the police department's seal on it. Whoever opens it will read a letter that reads "proto badgr kill."

If you go back to the library, you'll find Myriam's mirror still standing, but it doesn't function as a mirror anymore. You'll find a portrait of Aristotle Means instead, like a huge picture frame. A huge X painted in red covers about half of the portrait. The same goes for Matt and Simon Keye's mirrors - except Simon's mirror also has Matt's face on it. L O L.

The other mirrors have names again… although if you count, there seems to be only ten teams now: ]

[ Oh, okay, we're just going to scream. Give her a second, here. After she calms down, forcing herself to breathe, Trucy's...not sure what to do.

Are there even any clues here as to the identity of the killers? This set-up...it's pretty much exactly like... ]

...We...need to clean this up. We can't bury her, but...

[ ...Maybe they can put her in her room, for now. ]

dining hall, early morning;

[ But later in the day (or rather not in the middle of the night) Trucy can be found hanging out and eating a calzone. It's not going to do her any good to faint from hunger, or something. ]

So, do you think we're going to get "clues" again? The same way we did yesterday...

[ She finishes off the calzone and pulls out a deck of cards, which she idly begins shuffling. ]

[ He doesn't mean to sneak up on her or anything, but. ]

Do you know where her room is?

[ Oh, Scuttles... ]

[ There's a start - because dead body, nerves - but Trucy nods her head. ]

Yeah. She has the room across from Pearls - the one with Means' name on it. Almost right by the stairs.

[ He stands there for a moment, hands in his pockets. ]

As soon as Miss Fey there is done looking for clues, I'll handle it. [ He nods towards Mia. ] Would you go and check if the room is open? And if it is, leave the door open?

[ He'll have his arms full. That, and it looks to him like an excuse not to be looking at a body of a girl close to her age would be welcome. ]

I can go and check. If not, her key...

[ Should be somewhere. But Trucy doesn't finish that, just nods and heads over to look at Myriam's door. It shouldn't be too far from the scene, and she can call back easily enough after peering inside - ]

It's open!

[ Pearl is drowning her sorrows in a glass of punch. She did eat, though, if just because she knew she had to. It might as well have tasted like sawdust considering the taste in her mouth. ]

I... I'd think so. If we assume that Mr Engarde and Mr Keyes were one of the "bad badger friends", there's still two teams left to find.

[ And vote for and die, um. ]

Well, it obviously wasn't Myriam.

[ Trucy can't even feel properly validated about being correct about Myriam's innocence. :c Poor Myriam. She liked Myriam. ]

...And today it says "vote for Edgeworth safe".

Not that we thought it was... Poor Myriam, she was so sweet.

[ All she did was hide under her box. Why would someone kill someone like that? ]

I'm guessing that means if anyone misses a vote this time, it'll be Prosecutor Edgeworth losing fingers instead of Apollo... [ or cravats ]

Maybe...it was because "only one was bad"?

[ Like, the killers making the pool of innocent possibilities even smaller...they didn't really get any confirmation they were right, but they hadn't been told they were wrong, so...

Of course, Kristoph and the Ambassador could totally be evil and they could have gotten the wrong team, but Trucy's so far inclined to think they guess right (maybe) and at least she knows they were right about poor Myriam. ]

That makes sense. If they're bad, they'd want to take out whoever was good. Maybe the bad guys don't know who else bad, either?

[ Since no one seems to know what's going on... then again, surrounded by criminals, sobs. ]

...Nah, I think they'd have to know who was. Otherwise, what if they...killed one another, you know?

[ So the three "Teams" probably know (or knew, if they were right about Engarde) one another... ]

That's true. It'd be a disaster for them if that happened.

[ It'd be good news for everyone else, though. ]

So, we'll have to wait until tonight for three more clues... But if they're like the last ones, we still may be just guessing.

That's...basically it. I mean...I suppose we should try to spot people acting weird? Or maybe...

Well, everyone did end up voting except Uncle Larry, although he tried to at the last second. So no one tried to get out of voting...I think.

I guess so? Keep an eye out for anyone acting shady, though so far... no one has.

[ Not even the shady people! ]

No, it didn't seem like it. I think everyone was hesitant to do so, but maybe they realized they needed to do it for Apollo's sake... or just to avoid suspicion.

If it was to "avoid suspicion", I guess the order of the votes could be important, but...

[ SHRUGS. Who really knows? ]

...I guess we're playing a waiting game.

Maybe, but it's not much to go on...

[ Pearl swirls her punch in her glass. ] We didn't even get any ice cream...

[ Time to play the cheer-up game. ]

All right! Now, be sure to memorize it...

[ How many times has Pearl been part of an impromptu card trick? PROBABLY HUNDREDS, if she's close enough to be like a sister. ]

And shuffle it back into the deck for me, if you would.

[ Trucy will offer her friend the deck. ]

[ Gives the card an intent stare, then takes the deck. Presumably Trucy has taught her to properly shuffle a deck, so she does so, shuffling the mittens out of it.

Then she hands it back to Trucy. ]

Mr. Armando said he'd help move her to her room...but after we get her there, we should do that.

Y-Yeah, I think so, too... I didn't really talk to her... but she didn't deserve to go like this.

No. So...now we really have to find these "bad badgers". But...that was already true. It's not only our lives on the line.

...Well, Apollo had said to smile, more or less, right? She's Fine. ]

And...maybe we can figure out how to fix it! I mean, Dahlia's supposed to be dead, right?

I know... but we can't just kill people because we think they're bad badgers. [EVEN WITH APOLLO AND EDGEWORTH ON THE LINE]
